[Android] Troubleshooting Speech Recognition Issues

If the speech recognition feature in your “LangJournal” app is not working properly, here are some common steps you can take to resolve the issue on Android devices.

1. Check Your Android Version

Open [Settings] → [About Phone] (or [Device Info]) → [Software Information], and check the Android version.

Note: The exact menu names may differ depending on your device.

2. Speech Recognition Service Is Not Installed or Disabled

For Android 12 or below
1. Go to [Settings] → [Apps] → [All Apps] (or something similar) and ensure the “Google” app is enabled.
2. If it is disabled, switch it to Enable.
3. If the “Google” app does not appear in the list at all, please install it from the link below:
Install Google App (Google Play Store)
4. After changing the settings, restart your device, and then try using speech recognition in “LangJournal” again.

For Android 13 or above
1. Go to [Settings] → [Apps] → [All Apps] and look for “Speech Services by Google” or “Google Text-to-speech Engine.”
2. If it is disabled, switch it to Enable.
3. If you do not see either app listed, please install it from the link below:
Install Speech Services by Google (Google Play Store)
4. After changing the settings, restart your device, then try using speech recognition in “LangJournal” again.

If you still experience issues after these steps, please continue to the next section.

3. Default Speech Recognition Service Is Set to Something Else

1. Go to [Settings] → [Apps] → [Default Apps] (or [Language & Input])
2. Select an option related to speech input (e.g., “Voice Input”, “Assist & Voice Input”, etc.)
3. Set your default to “Google App” or “Speech Services by Google.”
4. Restart your device, then test speech recognition again.

Note: The exact menu names may differ depending on your device’s manufacturer or Android version. If you cannot find the menu, try using the search bar within the Settings app (e.g., search for “voice input” or “speech recognition”).
